Dr. Deborah Lamm Receives CEO Award
Dr. Deborah Lamm, a member of Gamma Lambda chapter, a 38-year employee of the community college system, and the president of Edgecombe Community College since 2004, was named recipient of the 2017 Southern Regional Chief Executive Officer by the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT). The ACCT recognizes an outstanding leader from each of the five regions in the United States. Dr. Lamm was selected for the award for establishing innovative programs and partnerships which have improved the effectiveness of the community college education that students are receiving in Edgecombe County. An example of these pioneering innovations is the Biotechnology and Medical Simulation Center which allows students to learn through the use of patient simulators in a simulated hospital environment. Also, in the works is a Center for Innovation which will be a hub for workforce training in advanced manufacturing. Other programs she has spearheaded are the EDGE Scholarship Program, “Get an Edge Up” which seeks to improve workforce preparedness using industry-standard WorkKeys assessment, and Student Success Centers on both campuses in Edgecombe County. While serving as president of the NC Association of Community College Presidents during 2016-2017, Dr. Lamm created Community College Day in the NC General Assembly. Dr. Lamm is the first North Carolinian from a small to medium-size community college to win this award. Gamma Lambda is very proud to have this lovely lady and outstanding educator as a member of our chapter! |
